Empty Miles proof of concept project

 

Based on the initial work of several members of the Board, GS1 and VICS will jointly define the functional requirements for a web based service for backhauling.  VICS has funded the "proof of concept" phase. This initial phase has specific deliverables and will be the basis for going forward with full development and implementation.

 

Key drivers

  • Introduce a value added service for the VICS membership.  Offer the service to large enterprises throughout N. America as a VICS revenue source.
  • Increased utilization of shipper capacity and improved responsiveness to retailer product availability needs.
  • Deliver the first solution using the “Collaboration Zone” platform which will be the basis for additional services in the future.

The service will be a tool to match shipping needs with shipper available capacity specifically in backhaul situations.
