Suppliers are sourcing goods farther from their DCs and usually landing their goods at one of many ports along the coasts and then transporting their goods to their DC and then the supplier or retailer is moving the goods from the vendor’s DC back to one of the retailer's DCs. The Vendor's DC Bypass Committee's mission is to identify opportunities to reduce and or eliminate unnecessary handling and movement of goods and identify possible standards and KPIs/Metrics to support and monitor that effort. The committee will leverage existing EDI and FRM standards to ensure the ability to utilize technology and have ability to crossdock goods at the Retailer's DCs.
The success of this committee is important as it will reduce logistics transportation costs, handling costs, and potentially reduce damage costs due to less handling/loading and unloading. It will also reduce the amount of unproductive transportation miles - which is becoming more important - not only due to cost but also supply.
Who should participate?
